KHS Visits The 14th Annual Student Legislative Session The 14th Annual Student Legislative Session was held Monday, November 13th at the Capitol in Austin. The Session is sponsored by Representative Ryan Guillen and 5 students from Kenedy High School participated. Marco Cantu was a state senator and Jade Rossilli, Delaney Barrientez, Jacob Janssen, and Ivana Pardo were all state representatives.

It is an awesome experience for these students because they get to present bills, argue for or against bills, and see the process of how bills are passed or rejected by the Legislature. Jacob Janssen got to Chair a committee, which meant he led the proceedings. Marco Cantu argued for a bill in a Senate committee.  Delaney Barrientez, Jade Rossilli, Jacob Janssen, and Ivana Pardo argued for a Teacher Pay Raise bill and got it passed in their committee, but it did not make it to the next step or Calendar. Then the students got to participate in a caucus before lunch. After lunch, they got to go to the Senate and House Chambers for more bill discussions. The session was ended with the Governor signing two of the bills that were passed by both houses into law.

These students represented Kenedy with pride and dignity and we are very proud of their accomplishments at the Legislative Session.
